About Me

I'm authoring two blogs, one for my family to connect us to our roots and to one another. My other blog is to provide spiritual encouragement. So I have two monikers, Joyful Spirit and Deborah (William and Mary's Great-Grandchild).

The Long Story - Moving Forward

Family Tree Printing - Genealogy Prints - Free Blank Printable Pedigree Chart I decided to bite the bullet and get on with it!  I never wanted to research my family genealogy because of all the disconnects.  After starting a spiritual blog about six weeks ago, I couldn't shake the urge to write a family blog.  But, there had to be a connection point.  Since my paternal grandmother never shared much with her children about her past, I decided if I'm going to do this, I'd start with my maternal family.  So here goes:

William and Mary Long are my maternal great-grandparents.  I never met them so I've created this blog to keep their legacy alive.  According to the 1920 U.S. census, they had six children, 3 boys and 3 girls in the following birth order: Iver Ella, Bula, my grandmother, Julia May, Jessie, Agustus (Gus), and Allen (Brown).  They lived in Talladega, Alabama.  As best I can tell, only my grandmother and my great Uncle Gus married and had children.   I'm going to interview my mother, her surviving sister, and my maternal grandmother's surviving nieces and nephews, hopefully, in birth order to learn all I can about my great-grandparents.  I'll post what I learn.

I've also listed the deceased children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of William and Mary (family, I need your help - if you know the year of death for those listed, pass it on to me).

We salute our family members who have served in the various branches of the military.  It may surprise you by how many have either served or are actively serving!

Our story has got to be told; after all, we are scattered all around the world (including  two relatives currently stationed in Afghanistan).  It might as well begin now.  I hope you'll share with the rest of us the momentous events in your branch of the family.  I'll post current events and celebrations (graduations, marriages, births) to keep us connected.  Stick with me family; we're all going to learn a lot and grow stronger together!
